AN ACT to amend the Public Service Act 1977.

[22nd December 2000]

BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Assembly of Samoa in Parliament assembled as follows:-

1. Short title and commencement - (1) This Act may be cited as the Public Service Amendment Act 2000 and is to be read together with and is deemed to be part of the Public Service Act 1977 (the principal Act).

(2) This Act shall come into force by order of the Head of State on the date specified in the Order.

2. Functions of the Public Service Commission - Section 4A is inserted into the principal Act as follows -

"4A. General functions of Commission - In addition to any other functions which may be conferred on the Commission by or under this Act, the Commission is responsible for-

(a) Planning for the human resource needs of the Public Service; and

(b) Developing and promoting policies for the efficient and effective management of the people employed under this Act; and

(c) Monitoring and evaluating the human resource management practices of departments and agencies who employ people under this Act; and

(d) Providing advice and assistance on human resource management matters in the Public Service to those departments and agencies on request."
