AN ACT to amend the Head of State Act 1965.

[23 April 1997]

BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Assembly of Western Samoa in Parliament assembled as follows:-

1. Short title and commencement-(1) This Act may be cited as the Head of State Amendment Act 1997 and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Head of State Act 1965 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).

(2) This Act shall be deemed to have come into force on 1 January 1997.

2. Salary and personal allowance of the Head of State - Section 7 of the principal Act is amended by-

(a) Omitting the expression "$51,761" from paragraph (a) and substituting the expression "$60,000";

(b) Omitting the expression "$3,500" from paragraph (b) and substituting the expression "$12,000".

3. Remuneration of Council of Deputies - Section 16 of the principal Act is hereby amended by omitting the expression "$35,000" from paragraph (a) and substituting the expression "$42,000".
