SOLOMON ISLANDS


THE 1997 SUPPLEMENTARY APPROPRIATION ACT 1997


(NO. 1 OF 1997)


Passed by the National Parliament this fourteenth day of May 1997.


Assented to in Her Majesty's name and on Her Majesty's behalf this Tenth day of July 1997.

AN ACT TO Appropriate Eight Million One Hundred and Twenty Four Thousand Six Hundred and Seventeen Dollars to the Service of the Year Ending 31st December, 1997.


ENACTED by the National Parliament of Solomon Islands.


Short title.


1. This act may be cited as the 1997 Supplementary Appropriation Act 1997.


Authorisation of issue from Consolidated Fund of $8,124,617 to the service of 1997.


2. The issue from the Consolidated Fund is hereby authorised of the sum of eight million one hundred and twenty four thousand six hundred and seventeen dollars to be applied to the service of the year ending 31st December 1997.


Appropriation


3. The sum specified in the preceding section shall be appropriated for supply of the heads specified and in the amounts respectively specified in relation thereto, in the Schedule to this Act.

EXPLANATORY NOTES


218-0001-4009 The additional fund in this item is required following the financial inability of the Government in 1996 to meet its bills under the 1996 budget. These have to be met this year and hence needs supplementary.

234-0270-6063 This new item used to be a project funded under Ausaid. After the-donor indicated only a non-cash grant towards the project in 1997, SIG has since been obligated to meet the recurrent cost. This was not budgeted for in 1997 Estimates, hence the additional fund is necessary

EXPLANATORY NOTES


45118 The additional funds required will cater for payment of 1996 outstanding fees with USP and FSM for Solomon Islands students.


45122 The additional requirement is to cater for site clearance and construction of buildings as the 1997 provision was underestimated.


45121 The project is not supposed to be non cash basis, SIG has so far received cash grants from JAICOH. Hence necessitate the need to make appropriate adjustment in the budget through this supplementary.
