Enacted by the Parliament of Nauru as follows:

1 Short title

This Act may be cited as the Naoero Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019.

2 Commencement

This Act commences upon certification by the Speaker.

3 Amendment of the Naoero Citizenship Act 2017

The Naoero Citizenship Act 2017 is amended by the provisions of this Act.

4 Insert new section 19A

‘19A Citizenship of minors

(1) Where one or both parents of a minor or dependant are granted citizenship under this Act, the minor or dependant shall be eligible to apply for citizenship concurrently or after the grant of citizenship to one or both of his or her parents.

(2) For the purposes of this section:

(a) a minor is a person under the age of 20 years; and

(b) a dependant is a person wholly dependent on his or her parents for financial, psychological or physical support.’
