PURSUANT to section 29 of the Juries Act 1968, His Excellency the Queen's Representative acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following regulations.

REGULATIONS

1. Title - These regulations may be cited as the Jurors Fees and Allowances Regulations 1988.

2. Fees payable to jurors - The fees prescribed in Part I of the Schedule to these regulations shall apply and be payable to jurors in respect of any criminal trial in the High Court.

3. Travelling allowances for jurors - The allowances prescribed in Part II of the Schedule to these regulations shall apply and be payable to jurors in respect of travelling to and from the High Court for the purpose of attending any criminal trial.

4. Meal allowances for Jurors - (1) Every person who is empanelled as a juror in the High Court shall be provided with a mid-day meal if such juror is required to be in attendance for a trial at mid-day and thereafter.

(2) Every juror who is empanelled as a juror for a trial in the High Court shall be provided with an evening meal if such juror is required to be in attendance for a trial at 5 o'clock in the afternoon and thereafter.

(3) Every juror who is empanelled as a juror for a trial in the High Court shall be provided with a meal in the morning if such juror is required to remain at the Court in attendance for a trial throughout the previous night.

(4) Where a juror is entitled to be provided with a meal pursuant to sub-clauses (1), (2) or (3) and no such meal is provided, there shall be paid to such juror a sum of money equivalent to the reasonable cost of providing such meal but not exceeding the sum of $10.00 per meal.

5. Revocation - The Jurors Fees and Allowances Regulations 1969 are hereby revoked.

SCHEDULE

PART I - FEES

The fees payable to jurors shall be as follows:

i. To every juror who is summoned and attends the Court on the first day of a trial, the sum of ................................................................................................$5.00

ii. To every juror who is empanelled for a trial for every full working day up to 5 o'clock in the evening of that day or part only of such day, the sum of ...........$20.00

iii. To every juror who is empanelled for a trial and who is required to continue in attendance at the Court for the trial after 5 o'clock in the afternoon, for every hour or part of an hour in attendance at the Court after 5 o'clock, the sum of..............................$5.00

PART II - TRAVELLING ALLOWANCES

The travel allowances payable to jurors shall be as follows:

i. To every juror who is summoned and who has to use public transport or his own transport to attend the Court on the first day appointed in the summons, the amount of the actual cost of travelling by public transport from his usual place or residence to the Court, and return.

ii. To every juror who is summoned and who is empanelled as a juror for a trial, the amount of the actual cost of travelling by taxi from his usual place of residence and return, for every day an which that juror attend the Court for the trial, excluding the first day on which he attends the Court in answer to the summons.
