An Act to correct omissions in the reappointment of Maarametua Tetava as Commissioner of Police during the period 1 November 2016 to 17 March 2020.
The Parliament of the Cook Islands enacts as follows—
This Act is the Police (Validation of Reappointment) Act 2020.
In this Act, the Police Act 2012 is called the principal Act.
This Act comes into force on assent by the Queen’s Representative.
This Act binds the Crown.
(1) This section applies to Maarametua Tetava who, in the period beginning on 1 November 2016 and ending at the close of 17 March 2020, occupied the position of Commissioner of Police.
(2) Maarametua Tetava is declared to have been reappointed under section 9 of the principal Act—
- (a) on 1 November 2016 until the close of 31 October 2018; and
- (b) on 1 November 2018 until the close of 17 March 2020.
(3) The reappointments made under subsection (2) override any other reappointments or purported reappointments made during the period.
(4) Anything done by Maarametua Tetava during the period 1 November 2016 to the close of 17 March 2020 is declared to be, and to have always been, as valid as it would have been if he had been validly reappointed to the position of Commissioner of Police.
This Act is administered by the Cook Islands Police.
