AN Act to amend the Prohibition of Forced or Compulsory Labour Ordinance 1960.

BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Assembly of the Cook Islands in Session assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1. Short Title - This Act may be cited as the Prohibition of Forced or Compulsory Labour Ordinance Amendment Act 1969, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Prohibition of Forced or Compulsory Labour Ordinance 1960 (hereinafter referred to as the Ordinance).

2. Miscellaneous amendments - The Ordinance is hereby amended-

(a) By repealing paragraphs (b) and (e) of section 2;

(b) By inserting in section 2, in lieu of paragraph (b) repealed, the following paragraph:

"(b) Any work or service performed by any person who is liable to pay any levy or tax prescribed by any local or public authority and who elects to carry out and perform such work or service to an equivalent value of any levy or tax that is due and payable; in such case the performance of such labour shall be an absolute discharge from his liability to pay such levy or tax".

3. Consequential repeals - The enactments specified in the Schedule to this Act are hereby consequentially repealed.
