An Act to amend the Police Act 1981

(30 June 1995

BE IT ENACTED by the Parliament of the Cook Islands in Session assembled, and by the authority of the same as follows:

1. Short Title and commencement - This Act may be cited as the Police Amendment Act 1994-95 and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Police Act 1981 (hereinafter referred to as ("the principal Act").

(2) This shall come into force on the 1st July 1995.

2. Police to resign before becoming candidates - The principal Act is amended by inserting after section 15, the following new section -

"16. Police to resign before becoming candidates - In the interests of preserving the independence and integrity of the police, a member of the police shall before becoming a candidate for election as a member of Parliament, resign from the police."
