An Act to amend the Customs Act 1913 by making provision for the importation of goods from countries other than New Zealand free of duty
(15 April 1987
1. Short title – This Act may be cited as the Customs Amendment Act 1986-87 and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Customs Act 1913 (hereinafter referred to as "the principal Act").
2. Importation of goods from countries other than New Zealand into Cook Islands free of duty – The principal Act is amended so far as it affects the law of the Cook Islands by inserting after section 298, the following section:
"298A. (1) Nothwithstanding any of the provisions of this Part of this Act or of any other Act, the Queen's Representative may from time to time by Order in Executive Council designate any country or countries (other than New Zealand) from which goods may be imported into the Cook Islands free of duty.
(2) Such order may impose such terms and conditions as shall be set out in the Order and may be varied or revoked by a subsequent Order.
(3) Such order may be made in respect of all goods imported from the country or countries designated in the Order or in a previous Order, or may be made in respect of such class or classes of goods as shall be specified in the Order.
(4) Every Order made pursuant to this section shall take effect from such date as may be specified in the Order, or if no date is specified, then from the date of the making of such Order."
