An Act to amend the Aged, Destitute and Infirm Persons Relief Act 1966
(28 February 1972
BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Assembly of the Cook Islands in Session assembled, and by the authority of the same as follows:
This Act may be cited as the Aged, Destitute and Infirm Persons Relief Amendment Act 1971-72 and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Aged, Destitute and Infirm Persons Relief Act 1966 (hereinafter referred to as "the principal Act").
Section 2 of the principal Act is hereby amended by omitting the words "of Social Development", and substituting the words "responsible for Internal Affairs'."
Section 5 of the principal Act is hereby repealed and the following section substituted: -
"5. Pensions shall be paid as from the first day of November 1971 at the rate of seventy-seven dollars and fifty cents per year."
Section 6 of the principal Act is hereby repealed.
Section 9 of the principal Act is hereby amended by -
(a) Omitting the term "Chief Medical Officer" and its definition, and inserting the following new term and definition:-
- "Director of Health" means the permanent head of the Department of Health and includes such other person as the Director of Health may from time to time delegate the duties imposed upon him by this Act."
(b) Omitting from the definition of the term "Department" the words "Social Development Department", and substituting the words "Department of Internal Affairs."
Section 10 of the principal Act is hereby amended by -
(a) Omitting from subsection (2) the word "Director", and substituting the words "permanent head":
(b) Omitting from subsection (2) the words "Chief Medical Officer", and substituting the words "Director of Health":
(c) Repealing subsection (3) and substituting the following subsection:-
- "(3) The permanent head of the Department shall be Chairman of the Committee and the Director of Health shall be Deputy Chairman."
This Act is administered in the Department of Internal Affairs.
